Unmatched efficiency,
handling, and lightness
"Composite" canoes are a huge category, because more companies use composites to build canoes -- and more hull designs are made from composites -- than any other material by far. More than just comprising a vast number of individual models, composite canoes also exhibit wide ranges of durability, price, weight, performance, etc.
A brief introduction may be in order. In its general sense, the term "composite materials" merely describes using varied materials together in good combinations, with no reference to any specific materials.
Describing canoes, however, "composites" routinely means forming a hull in a mold by laminating fibers together using resins. There are various ways to do it, and they deliver varying degrees of success.
But to describe Wenonah canoes specifically, "composites" means using the most superior fibers and resins, laminating them painstakingly by hand to follow carefully-engineered schemes, and applying the process to highly-sophisticated hull designs. We use only the best composite materials and construction methods to achieve lightness, strength, and performance that other canoes don't equal.
For one thing, we make the widest choice of hull designs available from any builder. Each is optimized for its use, which can range from stable craft ideal for fishing, to efficient vehicles for months in the wild. Beyond that, we offer choices of construction materials and methods that let you tailor your canoe even more closely to your needs.
Our composite canoes are available made from Kevlar,® Tuf-weave,® or graphite. These offer a range of weights and prices. We also offer two types of internal stiffening that fine-tune the performance of the canoe. To learn more about these alternatives, see Composite Canoes, Materials and Structure.
While all of this variety may seem a bit foreboding, we offer it so that dedicated canoeists can obtain the craft that is ideal. When sensitively designed and built, composite materials can make extraordinary canoes. When designed and built by We-no-nah, and when thoughtfully selected by you, composite materials can make the best-performing and most-satisfying canoe available from any source. |
